Emergency utility assistance provides direct intervention service to eligible low-income Passaic residents suffering from disrupted service or who are on the verge of having their utility service discontinued. Direct payments will be made to the service provider if the need has been established. Intervention will be made to develop a payment plan between the service provider and the client receiving the utility services.
Families in danger of losing utility services receive financial assistance and help in developing budgets and payment plans. Also, eligible clients receive weatherization services for their home or apartment.
To help pay your utilities there are two programs available for the head of household.
LIHEAP (Energy Assistance Program For Low Income)
LIHEAP, is a program that helps you to pay a portion of heating costs, even if they are included in the income you may qualify.
LIHEAP Applications received from November 1 until March 31.
USF (Universal Services Fund)
USF, is a program created by the State of New Jersey to help reduce energy costs for low-income customers. If you are eligible, USF can help reduce the amount you have to pay their gas and electricity bills.
USF applications are accepted all year long..
How to Apply:
You can apply for both USF and LIHEAP using the same application. Applications are available at our offices and on-line cyber (internet). You may be eligible for both programs.
