The United Passaic Food Center

The emergency food center is partnering with the First Presbyterian Church. This service is designed to provide emergency food assistance to low-income families and individuals in the city of Passaic. Counted among these would be the homeless, the working poor, senior citizens on fixed income, etc. This program is also designed to meet one of the needs that Passaic's mayor pointed out in the city's Community Action Plan, the need to address the problem of hunger in this community.

Clients are seen on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The clients will be interviewed to determine eligibility for receiving food according to family size. The client cannot be served more than once every other month. Recipients of welfare benefits or food stamps will not be provided assistance. The only exception to this rule is if the clients have written proof from a Passaic County Board of Social Service representative that his/her food stamps have been delayed or stolen.

Eligibility Requirements for the Emergency Food Assistance

  • Letter of referral from social service, city hall, local church, hospital, etc.
  • Service provided to city of Passaic residents only.
  • Proof of circumstances necessitating assistance.
  • Client can only be served once every other month.
